Star -MTB exchange views with recipients
A half-day views exchange meeting, "Promoting Knowledge and Education: Conversing with DU Student Representatives", was held at The Daily Star Centre yesterday where 46 students from 27 departments of Dhaka University took part.
The participants agreed that students got comprehensive education when they took academic lessons and learned contemporary world affairs from newspapers.
The event was organised to receive feedbacks from representatives of the 1,000 resident students of DU who had been receiving a free copy of The Daily Star each at their dormitories regularly for the last one year. Representatives of those students who will get the newspaper free for the next year were also present.
The Daily Star and Mutual Trust Bank Ltd (MTB) jointly launched the free distribution service in 2011.
The participants gave their views on the newspaper and acknowledged that reading The Daily Star improved their English skills. An anthropology student said The Daily Star helped him get admission to DU.
Md Bachchu Miah, a student of public administration, shared how The Daily Star helped him in his career with the USAID. The post editorials and "Forum" articles helped him enrich his knowledge, he said.
Echoing him, statistics student Shafiqul Islam said reading The Daily Star proved to be useful in job interviews and different exams.
Editor and Publisher Mahfuz Anam said the aim of the free distribution service was to engage students in an intellectual process.
