Shahbagh sit-in hailed in parliament
A number of ruling Awami League lawmakers in parliament yesterday strongly supported and lauded the spontaneous Shahbagh sit-in demanding death penalty for all war criminals, including Jamaat-e-Islami leader Abdul Quader Mollah.
The youth has proved that the nation cannot be misled and defeated, they said, asserting that the movement must culminate in success.
Thousands of youth began streaming into the capital's Shahbagh intersection on Tuesday afternoon shortly after a tribunal jailed Quader Mollah for life. The movement, initiated by bloggers and online activists, is still in progress without recess.
“I am expressing my solidarity with them," said AL MP Ziaur Rahman. "I strongly believe this movement will reach to a new height and must achieve its goal.â€
It is the rise of the youth, said lawmaker Noni Gopal Mandal.
AL MP Dr Sirajul Akbar said a new liberation war would begin from Shahbagh and that the youth proved the BNP-Jamaat wrong, who thought they could mislead the nation.
Asaduzzaman Khan, another lawmaker, said the people were now united on the demand.
