Dipu Moni leaves for Cairo
Foreign Minister Dipu Moni yesterday left from Dhaka for Cairo to represent Bangladesh in the 12th Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit scheduled from February 6 to7.
The summit is titled “The Islamic World: New Challenges and Growing Opportunitiesâ€.
The foreign minister will also attend the OIC's foreign ministerial meeting from February 4 to 5, said official sources.
Egyptian President Mohammad Mursi will deliver a speech at the opening ceremony of the Islamic summit in Cairo.
Senegal will hand over the presidency of Islamic summit to Egypt on February 6.
Foreign ministry officials said the OIC Summit will discuss issues, including Syrian crisis, conflict in Mali, Palestine's condition, Israeli settlements, Somalia's condition, political issues influencing the OIC member-states, fighting Islamophobia and means for establishing relations with non-Muslim countries.
About 26 heads of the state of the OIC members have confirmed about attending the summit while about 46 OIC member-states said they will attend the summit.
