The elegance of miniature painting
Shaheed Colonel Jamil Foundation and Gallery Cosmos-2 have jointly organised a group exhibition of miniature paintings. The exhibition is on at Gallery Cosmos-2, New DOHS, in the capital.
Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique, Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University, and Giorgio Guglielmino, the Italian Ambassador to Bangladesh, jointly inaugurated the exhibition on January 29.
Professor Syed Abul Barq Alvi, Dean, Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka; Enayetullah Khan, chairman, Gallery Cosmos and Cosmos Atelier 71 Printmaking Studio, were present as guests of honour.
The participating artists are: Pijush Kanti Sarkar, Pronob Kumar Sarkar, Wahida Sultana, Shahnoor Mamun, Sultan Ishtiaque, Tajosh Halder, Ariful Islam, Zeenat Zulfiqure, Sadiya Sultana, Sanjida Sharmeen, Mukti Khatun, Farzana Akhter Tania, Shajib Ahmed, Lamia Azad, Kamrun Nahar, Ashraful Arefin, Tanjima Tabassum, Vinita Karim, Afrozaa Zamil Konka and others.
The exhibition features artworks produced at a recent workshop held at Gallery Cosmos-2. The 10-daylong miniature workshop was conducted by visiting artist Safdar Ali Qureshi, a faculty member of the Centre of Excellence in Art and Design, in Lahore, Pakistan. The workshop aimed to popularise miniature (the medium) among promising painters of Bangladesh.
Works at the exhibition depict different aspects of human life, nature, seasons, river, birds, greenery, blue sky, moonlit night, urban streets and more.
About 65 miniature paintings, including 15 artworks by Safdar Ali Qureshi, are on display at the exhibition.
The exhibition will continue till February 7.
