Clash over building temple, 16 injured
At least 16 people, including eight women, were injured in a clash over construction of a temple in Kaharol upazila of the district yesterday.
Six of the injured were admitted to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital while rest to to the upazila health complex.
Police said two groups, one led by Dulal Debnath and the other by Sudev Debnath locked in an altercation over building a Kali temple at Chawk-Pranpur Debnathpara under the upazila at around 10:30pm.
At one stage, the rival groups equipped with lethal weapons attacked each other, leaving at least 16 people from both sides injured.
Being informed, police rushed to the spot, dispersed the clashing groups and brought the situation under control.
Police have been deployed in the area to avert any further clash. No case was filed with the police station concerned as of filing of this report at 6:00pm yesterday.
