Shah's trust in BCB
It was a rollicking 84 of 63 balls by Owais Shah that propelled the Dhaka Gladiators' innings against the Khulna Royal Bengals yesterday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.
The English batsman who is playing his second consecutive T20 competition in as many months, following his stint at the Big Bash for the Hobart Hurricanes, has transformed himself into a T20 specialist of sorts over the last couple of years. His stint with the Dhaka Gladiators makes this the eleventh team that he has played T20 cricket with.
“I enjoy it a lot. The way I see it, when I was young I wanted to play for England, I wanted to play Test and one day international cricket. And when that finished I looked up my game and I thought okay I want to play T20 because there are lots of leagues coming up and the financial rewards are really good,†said Shah in a press conference at the end of the game.
The batsman, who last represented England in 2009, despite his good run in the shortest format of the game, however, believed that his 'England days' were long over. “I don't think I'll play for England again, those days are over. If they pick me I will, but I think they are going with a lot of youngsters,†said Shah.
Aware of the payment-related problems that embroiled the inaugural edition of the BPL, Shah believed that this year's edition would be different.
“We were told by the Professional Cricketers Association England that there have been problems in payment. But this year the tournament has been structured differently, and we should be getting paid in the next day or so from the board. We have put our trust on the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and they shouldn't let us down,†said Shah.
