Family rejects fresh charge sheet
The family members of slain college student Kamrul Islam Momin have again rejected the fresh charge sheet submitted before the court by the Detective Branch (DB) of police and urged the government not to accept it.
At a press conference at the Crime Reporters' Association of Bangladesh (Crab) in the city yesterday, parents, brothers and sisters of the deceased demanded judicial probe saying that it is not possible for police to investigate properly the crime committed by another policeman.
They alleged that being influenced by a vested quarter and taking a bribe of Tk 1 crore, Investigation Officer (IO) DB Inspector Farman Ali submitted the fresh charge sheet on March 3 excluding a total of 18 accused, including the main accused Rafiqul Islam, former officer-in-charge (OC) of Motijheel Police Station, from it.
They also alleged that the IO submitted the charge sheet without informing the complainants and avoiding many important information and documents to save the main accused.
Momin's father Abdur Razzak, mother Rahima Khanam, brothers Saiful Islam, Shamsul Islam, Nazrul Islam and Enamul Islam and sisters Subina Akhter and Farzana Akhter were present at the press conference.
Momin was killed on September 13, 2005 and a case was filed with Kafrul Police Station accusing several people, including Rafiqul Islam.
The assistant police super of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) submitted a charge sheet before the court on May 13, 2007.
But in the face of objection from the plaintiffs, the court rejected the charge sheet and ordered fresh investigation.
Accordingly, DB Inspector Forman Ali was given the charge for submitting a fresh charge sheet after further investigation.
