Robberies in 3 districts
A gang of masked robbers injured three people and looted cash from two bankers at Kachirchar in Phulchhari upazila of Gaibandha on Tuesday.
Police said, two officials of Rupali Bank Gaibandha Branch were going to Chithulia Digor Government Primary School in Mollar Char union for distributing about Tk 1.9 lakh as stipend among the students of 10 other schools there by a boat.
As the boat reached the area, the gang attacked the duo and other passengers and took away the money at gunpoint after giving the three a good beating.
In another incident, robbers killed a night guard of a bank in the district town early Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Sadequl Islam, 35, of Genopara village in Gangachara upazila, said Gopal Chandra Chakkravarti, OC of Sadar police station.
The gang entered Pubali Bank Gaibandha Branch on DB road by breaking open the main gate and tied up. Sadequl later died of suffocation.
The robbers tried to break open the vault of the bank but fled the scene sensing the presence of patrol police, said the OC.
Away in Madaripur, robbers looted cash, gold ornaments and other valuables from a house at Mollakandi village in Shibchar upazila on Tuesday night.
The law enforcers arrested one Monu Sheikh, 35, in this connection, reports a correspondent.
Police said a gang of 7/8 swooped on the house of Oman expatriate Munshi Mia and took away two tolas of gold ornaments, Tk 15,000 and seven mobile phone sets at gunpoint, said sub-inspector Panu Sheikh.
In Manikganj, robbers beat up three people and looted valuables from two houses at Golai village under Singair upazila early yesterday, reports our correspondent.
A masked gang numbering 15-20, entered the house of Kuddus Ali of the village at around 2:00 am. They beat up two members of the house when they tried to resist the gang and looted two tolas of gold ornaments, two mobile sets and other goods.
The robbers later went to the neighbouring house of expatriate worker Abdus Sattar. They beat up the wife of Sattar and looted valuables.
