Photo exhibition on Liberation War
Marking the Victory Day celebrations, Alokchitra Shilpi Sangsad (Ashis), Mymensingh organised a photography exhibition at Boishakhi Mancha of Shaheb Quarter Park area on December 16.
More than 300 photographs, including some 60 photographs on the War of Liberation taken by internationally reputed photographer late Nayeb Uddin Ahmed and others were displayed at the exhibition. It was the 36th exhibition by Ashis organised to celebrate the 41st anniversary of the Liberation War.
Photographs displayed at the exhibition were also on wildlife, environment, agriculture, cultural heritage, nature and daily life of the rural people.
Visitors in hundreds enjoyed the day long exhibition.
Deputy Commissioner of Mymensingh Lokman Hossain Miah inaugurated the exhibition as chief guest.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and Development) Shibir Bichitra Barua, District Cooperative Officer Horidas Thakur, Ashis vice-president Subudh Chandra Chanda, its executive member Mustafa Kamal addressed the inaugural session of the exhibition.
Ashis secretary AHM Motalab delivered the welcome speech while Kamruzzaman Miah, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of sadar upazila, also convener of the exhibition celebration committee presided.
The speakers at the inaugural session said that the photographs taken during the War of Liberation are a vivid description of the Liberation War's history and the images will imbue the new generations with patriotic vigor and spirit.
The photographs on the Liberation War drew the attention of the international community who drummed up support in favour of the war, said the speakers adding many world leaders then came forward to assist the war victims and the freedom fighters.
Internationally reputed photographer, also president of Bangladesh Bird Association Enam Al Haque; mountaineer M A Muhit; Adiluzzaman Adil; Mazeda Begum; Biplob Kumar Guha Manik; Surindra Kishore Dutt Chowdhury; Shanta Roy; Prithish Sarker; Shahidur Rahman Hira among others took part in the exhibition.
Ashis also organised a cultural function marking the occasion. The artistes performed chorus, dance sequences, comic acts and a magic show at the programme.
