National flags and festoons sell well in Rangpur
Makeshift shops and flag sellers were busy selling national flags and festoons to rake in returns at the Victory Day celebrations in Rangpur.
Owners of the makeshift shops said that this was only a temporary business for them. They capitalise on special days such as December 16, February 21, March 26, November 7 and August 15 when demand for these items is at its peak.
Visiting different places in Rangpur city, this correspondent found that around 10 makeshift shops and a good number of flag sellers were doing brisk business.
Obaidur Rahman, owner of a makeshift shop at Jahaj Company intersection area said, “My main profession is selling daily newspapers and magazines at my shop. But for the last 10 years I have been selling various types of flags of 5 inches to 50 inches dimensions at rates ranging from Taka 10- Taka 1,000 on specials days.
“I make the flags and festoons myself and purchase the head bands, wrist bands and caps from wholesalers and then sell these special items,†he added.
