BGB, police sue 188 Jamaat-Shibir men
BGB (Border Guard Bangladesh) and police have sued 188 Jamaat-Shibir men on charges of vandalising a BGB vehicle and injuring its driver at Mohananda Bus Stand in the town on Wednesday afternoon.
Nayek Subedar Abu Taher of 9 BGB Battalion filed a case with Chapainawabganj Sadar Police Station on Wednesday night, accusing 37 named and 150 unnamed Jamaat-Shibir activists of vandalising a BGB pickup van and injuring its driver.
Sub-Inspector Jahangir Alam filed another case against 188 Jamaat-Shibir activists with the police station yesterday morning on same charges. Of the accused, 28 have been identified while the rest remain unidentified.
Names of 187 accused are same in both cases filed by BGB and police.
Police on Wednesday night arrested four Jamaat activists, raiding different areas of the town. The arrestees are Saidur Rahman, Delwar Hossain, Hazrat Ali and Abdul Hamid. They are accused in the two cases, said Golam Mortuza, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sadar Police Station.
Around 200 Jamaat-Shibir men held a rally in Mohananda Bus Stand area at around 3:45pm on Wednesday. Suddenly, a group strayed from the rally and vandalised the passing vehicle of 9 BGB Battalion. Sepoy Amjad Hossain, driver of the vehicle, sustained injuries during the attack.
The vehicle was going to Ranihati in Shibganj upazila from the battalion headquarters in Chapainawabganj town.
Meanwhile, police arrested three Jamaat-Shibir activists on Wednesday night for their alleged involvement in destructive activities. The arrestees are Abdul Malek, 40, Golam Mostafa, 48, and Nahid Ahmed, 21.
Abdul Malek was arrested from Nachole, Golam Mostofa from Shibganj and Nahid Ahmed from Sadar upazilas.
