A concert with a mission
A UNFPA-BAMBA youth concert with the theme `Say No to Violence against Woman: Be a Real Man' will be held on December 7 from 2:30pm onwards at Khulna District Stadium. Begum Monnujan Sufian MP, State Minister, Ministry for Labor and Employment will be present as chief guest, says a press release.
A press conference was organised by UNFPA-BAMBA recently at Pan Pacific Sonargaon where Arthur Erken, UNFPA Bangladesh representative; Foad Nasser Babu, vice president, BAMBA along with Sheikh Monirul Alam Tipu, general secretary, BAMBA; Afsana Taher, chief of Operations, UNFPA briefed the media about the campaign and its objectives. Md. Maruf Hasan, Program Officer (Gender) and UNFPA, Doza Alan CEO, Sky Tracker Limited; Bappa Majumder (Dalchchut); Biplob (Prometheus); Tanzir Tuhin (Shironamhin) and other participating band members of BAMBA, were also present on the occasion to express their solidarity with the cause.
Welcoming the media, Afsana Taher, said that, UNFPA has been organising this 16-day long campaign in Bangladesh in collaboration with BAMBA annually since 2010 to send the message that Nov 25 is the International Day to mark EVAW and Dec 10 is International Human Rights Day. This concert is a means of conveying the message to the younger generation that we have to end violence against women in any form, because it is also a violation of the human rights of women.
Arthur Erken, UNFPA Bangladesh representative expressed condolences for the recent tragic incident in Tazreen Garments, stating that most of the victims gutted by the fire were women workers. He also referred to the incident of Fatima who despite being a brilliant student was brutally murdered by her husband for giving birth to a girl. He expressed his satisfaction at teaming up with BAMBA for the third time for such a great cause because “Every woman has the right to live in dignityfree of fear, coercion, violence and discrimination.†He said that we have to be very vocal about these burning issues and incidents.
Sheikh Monirul Alam Tipu thanked UNFPA for making BAMBA a partner of this humanitarian campaign to eradicate the current scourge of violence against women in Bangladesh.
Foad Nasser Babu, asked people from all walks of life, specially, the youth of the city to join the protest concert on December 7 to unanimously say `No' to all forms of violence against women and put a full-stop to sexual harassment. Shamin, Manager of LRB, informed the media that Aiyub Bachchu, the lead vocal of LRB, is now in a stable condition. Doctors have advised him a month's bed-rest.
The tickets are at Taka 100. The concert will feature leading bands like Nagar Baul, Warfaze, Maqsood O' Dhaka, Feedback, Prometheus, Dalchchut, Lalon, Shironamhin, Nemesis, Mechanix, Beduin and Dreek.
