Admission quota for MPs
Govt move kicks up an uproar among educationists, guardians (November 12, 2012)
Md Masud Karim
We are waiting for the education minister's reaction.
Mohammed Uddin
This is an unconstitutional move. Our constitution allows quota only for disadvantaged people.

What is going on in the ministry?

MPs' job is to make law but in Bangladesh it is a way of getting control over everything.

It is a gross violation of the basic principle of democracy to ensure rights to equal opportunity for all citizens of the country irrespective of social status and position. It is sheer abuse of power contrary to the basic norms of democracy. The very tendency of our lawmakers to grab every opportunity of special privileges speaks eloquently of their total indifference to social justice and democratic values.
Dr. Nazmul Haq
The present government is trying to legalise the illegal activities.
Ziaush Shams
We sometimes wonder what the elected MPs are after!
Dr. Iftikhar-ul-Awwal, DU
The move to introduce quotas for MPs in school admission is fraught with manifold dangers. By paving the way to political influence, we are likely to endanger the backbone of the nation. We must, therefore, desist from taking wrong decisions and maintain status quo.
Shariful Alam
The government should not take this controversial decision. This will increase corruption in school admission process. Opposition parties should protest against this move.

What is the purpose of quota system? Are they afraid that their children are not meritorious or qualified enough to get admitted into schools on their own?
Saleh Md. Shahriar
Please ban admission quotas for MPs. The quota system is harmful for meritocracy.
Opee Monir
This is corruption and should not be encouraged at all at any cost. This makes our MPs susceptible to do more corruption. How do we know that they would not sell their quotas?
Syed Imtiaz Ali
The cartoon speaks louder than any words and the quota system is prevalent to the detriment of recognising talent. Education I dead means the nation is dead, and we are fast moving to that end, more so by politicising. Please rescue education!
Gias
This is totally disgusting. No civilized country in the world has this kind of facilities for the MPs.
Shihab Uddin Ahmed
I think there should be quota for underprivileged children. We also need to reconsider the freedom fighter quota. Freedom fighters are respected citizens of the country. But how many generations of them will enjoy quota? Quota always deprives the meritorious students. Quota for grandchildren is not a good idea.

We are a middle-class family. I do not have any reference or influential uncle and do not have excess money to get my children admitted to a good school in Dhaka as the number of seats are very few. There are countless families like ours. In this situation, how come the government take this kind of step? If the government is truly honest to the citizens, then I think they should not take this step.
