Belarus keen to invest in Bangladesh

Belarus is keen to invest in the heavy industry and technological sectors of Bangladesh.
The visiting Belarusian Prime Minister Mikhail V Myasnikovich conveyed the interest of his country when he met President Zillur Rahman at Bangabhaban yesterday.
Belarus is willing to give continued support to Bangladesh in economic, social, cultural and technological development, said Myasnikovich.
He said his country would also fund the establishment of an engineering faculty at a higher education institution and also another high quality educational institution.
Prime Minister Myasnikovich also informed the president of the seven agreements and five MoUs on cooperation that were signed between the representatives of authorities and businesses of the two countries.
He said Belarus would try to quickly implement the agreements and MoUs to strengthen its relations with Bangladesh.
President Zillur Rahman recalled the contributions of the then Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), of which Belarus was a part, during the war of independence of Bangladesh in 1971.
Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dipu Moni, Ambassador to Russia SM Saiful Hoque, Belarus Industry Minister Dmitry Katerinich, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Aleinik, First Deputy Education Minister Aleksandr Zhuk and Secretaries of the President's Office were present on the occasion.
