HC stays Shafiqul Iqbal's transfer as BTCL's GM
The High Court yesterday, in response to a writ petition, stayed for four months the transfer of Abu Syed Md Shafiqul Iqbal to the post of a general manager (accounts and finance) of Bangladesh Telecommunication Company Limited (BTCL).
Shafiqul Islam was a director of Dhaka Telecommunication Company Limited, said Abdullah Al Mamun, counsel of the petitioner.
The court also issued a rule upon the government to explain why its order to transfer Shafiqul Islam to the post of a general manager should not be declared illegal.
Abdullah Al Mamun told The Daily Star that the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications transferred Shafiqul Islam and gave him posting to the office of the general manager (accounts and finance) on November 5, violating the service rules of the government.
Abdul Moyez Mollah, director (revenue) of BTCL, yesterday filed the petition challenging the legality of the transfer.
In the petition, he said Shafiqul Islam was appointed from Bangladesh Civil Service as a telecom cadre and was not fit for the post as per the service rules of the government.
The HC bench of Justice Tariq ul Hakim and Justice Ashish Ranjan Das came up with the order and rule after holding a hearing on the petition.
