One killed, 7 hurt as robbers throw them off running train
A passenger was killed and seven others were injured as robbers threw them off a running train in Sarishabari upazila town on Wednesday night.
The deceased was identified as Rapoti Pal, 50, son of late Hirambho Pal of Baroipatol village.
Injured Ramprashad Pal, 40, of Baroipatol village, Swapon, 30, of Bhatara in Sarishabari upazila, Suruj Ali, 60, Sharif, 15, of Nalitabari upazila in Sherpur district, Tuhin, 20, of Bogra, Nurul Islam, 16, of Jamalpur, and Sirajul Islam, 48, of Tangail were admitted to a local hospital.
Osman Gani, officer in-charge at Jamalpur Railway police station, said at about 10:30pm, a gang of 7/8 swooped on a coach of the Jamuna Bridge-bound train from Dhaka, attacked the passengers with sharp weapons and looted cash and valuables.
At one stage, four of the passengers were pushed off the running train by the gang near post office intersection in the town while the rest in Tarakandi area. Of the victims, Rapoti died on the spot.
A case was filed in this connection, said the OC.
