Two accused on three-day remand
A Dhaka court yesterday placed two accused in the murder of Saudi embassy official Khalaf Al Ali on a fresh three-day remand.
Khalaf, 45, an official at the consular section of Saudi embassy in Dhaka, was shot dead near his house in the diplomatic enclave at the wee hours of March 6. Detectives at a press briefing on July 25 claimed that the incident was of simply mugging.
The two arrestees -- Saiful Islam Mamun, 20, Rafiqul Islam Khokon, 22 -- were earlier taken on an eight-day remand.
In the forwarding report, the IO said the remand was needed to unearth vital clues and whereabouts of their fugitive accomplice, Md Selim.
Earlier, two other arrested accused, Al Amin and Akbar Ali Ilias Lalu, had given confessional statements before magistrates admitting their involvement in the killing.
On July 1, the case was included in the list of sensational cases under the home ministry's monitoring cell.
