Agitation goes on at Buet
Agitating teachers of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) yesterday continued their demonstration demanding the removal of the university VC and his deputy.
They staged a two-hour sit-in programme in front of the Buet Council Building which began at 11:00am.
The Buet Teachers' Association began their demonstration on April 7 demanding removal of Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof SM Nazrul Islam and Pro VC Prof M Habibur Rahman over 16 allegations against them.
Talking to The Daily Star, Prof Ashraful Islam, general secretary of the association said, "We have been waiting eagerly for the government to take steps to resolve this crisis but no progress has been made so far."
He urged the government to remove the VC and his deputy and bring the teachers and students back to academic activities.
On July 21, the teachers threatened to resign en masse if their demand was not met by July 30. They had issued a similar ultimatum on July 16 which they postponed later.
They decided to continue a two-hour agitation every day, except Friday, from 11:00am to 1:00pm till July 30.
