BCL activists assault journalist at DU

Some Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists assaulted the Dhaka University correspondent of Bangla daily Manab Zamin at Sergeant Zahurul Haque Hall yesterday.
Witnesses said the victim, Sanaul Haque Sani, was having lunch at the hall's canteen when the BCL activists led by Nayon, studying in his second year in the philosophy department, pointed at him and passed offensive comments.
When Sani protested, the BCL activists, residents of the hall, beat him indiscriminately and left the scene, said the victim, who was later administered first aid.
DU Proctor Prof MA Ali said the university authorities would take punitive measures against the attackers.
A house tutor of the hall informed that Nayon had earlier assaulted students of the hall and the hall authorities had warned him through several notices.
DU unit BCL General Secretary Omar Sharif said the attackers should be handed over to police.
Officer-in-Charge of Shahbagh Police Station Muhammad Sirajul Islam said a general diary was lodged in this connection.
