8 BNP men get bail
The High Court yesterday granted ad interim bail for six months to eight leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliated organisations in a case filed for killing a driver in the capital in April this year.
On April 21, driver Bador Ali was killed when the bus he was sleeping in was torched in the capital's Khilgaon area.
The Khilgaon police filed the case on the same day.
The leaders are Jatiyatabadi Swechhasebok Dal President Habib Un Nabi Khan Sohel, Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal General Secretary Saiful Islam Nirob and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal President Sultan Salahuddin Tuku.
The five activists are Amirul Islam Khan Alim, Kamal Anwar Ahmed, Meer Sarafat Ali Sofu, Abdul Matin and Badal Hossain.
All accused are now in Kashimpur jail in Gazipur.
A HC bench of Justice Kamrul Islam Siddiqui and Justice Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman granted them bail after a hearing on a petition filed by the accused.
Barrister Raghib Chowdhury, a lawyer for the petitioners, told The Daily Star that there is no legal bar to his clients' release from jail following the HC order.
