Jail officials found at fault
A departmental probe, commissioned to investigate the May 21 Sylhet Central Jail incident, found irregularities and mismanagement of the jail officials in running the affairs of the jail, leading to the untoward incident.
The three-member inquiry committee, headed by Deputy Inspector General (Prison) Md Fazlur Rahman, yesterday submitted its report to the Inspector General (Prison) recommending termination of Chief Jail Warden Yousuf Ali, closing of Jailer Abdul Barek and issuing warning against Senior Jail Superintendent Tipu Sultan.
Contacted, DIG (Prison) confirmed the submission of the report.
He said the probe body suggested for punitive measures against the staff responsible for the incident.
On May 21, some jail inmates clashed with jail staffs demanding stoppage to all irregularities in Sylhet Central Jail. The incident left nine guards and inmates injured.
