Nazrul Academy observes Poet's birth anniversary
To celebrate the 113th birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam as well as to mark the 90th anniversary of the publication of his most famed creation “Bidrohi”, Nazrul Academy organised a three day festival. The festival was inaugurated on May 23 at the main auditorium of Bangladesh National Museum, and ended on May 25 at Nazrul Academy in Moghbazar. The festival featured discussion, music rendition, dance performance, recitation and award giving ceremony.
Begum Uma Kazi, daughter- in-law of the poet attended the programme as chief guest. Khilkhil Kazi, grand daughter of the poet; research and publication secretary of Nazrul Academy M Mizanur Rahman; Nashid Kamal, member of the academy; M Atikur Rahman, joint -secretary of the academy; among others, spoke on the occasion. Noted poet, folklorist and president of Nazrul Academy Dr. Ashraf Siddiqui presided over the programme. On the opening day of the festival the academy awarded renowned singer Mustafa Zaman Abbasi with 'Nazrul Academy Award 2012' for his outstanding contribution to Nazrul songs. He received the award from Begum Uma Kazi.
The festival began with a song-and-dance presentation by the artistes of Nazrul Academy. Syed Abu Zafar Ahmed Rasul, vice-president of the academy recited the poem “Bidrohi”
Mintu Rahman, general secretary of Nazrul Academy delivered the welcome speech. He said, “Nazrul was not only a poet, but also a great philosopher. The main aspect of his philosophy was welfare of the people and the country.”
Dr Ashraf Siddiqui said, “Through his poems and songs, Nazrul had inspired people to fight against injustice, cruelty and repression during the British colonial rule. His songs and poems were also a key source of inspiration for the freedom fighters during the Liberation War.”
On the second day of the festival, the musical programme featured solo and group performances by the teachers of the academy and promising singers of the country. Teachers of the academy--- Karim Shahabuddin, Moidul Islam, Md Bodiuzzaman Badol, and Mazharul Islam Talash rendered songs at the programme. Promising singers Fahmida Rahman, Sirajul Islam, Konika Naznin, Tanjina Karim, Azharul Islam, Obayedur Rahman and others performed at the programme. Singers rendered the songs like “Hey Priyo Amare Debo Na Bhulite”, “Jhumra Nach Nachey Key”, “Ami Purob Desher Puro Naari” “Sundar Atithi Esho” “Priyo Emon Raat”, “Nodir Naam Shoi”, “Chander Konya” and more.
Dancers Amiruzzaman Moni, Gazi Sanjida, Susana, Josna and others performed at the programme.
