Robbers kill bus passenger
Unidentified robbers killed a passenger and injured seven others of a bus and looted valuables from them on Chokoria-Pakua road in Cox's Bazar Thursday night.
The victim was identified as Sabuz Kanti Das, 29, a businessman at Pakua Bazar and son of Arun Das of Lohagora upazila in Chittagong.
Of the injured driver Mamun, 32, supervisor Mujib, 50, passengers Pardeep Kumar Shil, 45, Nayan Das, 28, and Alimuddin, 34, were admitted to different health complexes. The other two were given first aid.
When the bus, S Alam Paribahan, reached Mohsaniakata area, a gang of around eight robbers in guise of passengers took all the passengers of the bus hostage at gunpoint, said driver Mamun.
The miscreants stopped the bus and made the passengers get out of it. At one stage, they began to stab and beat up some passengers and looted gold ornaments, cell phones and other valuables from them, added Mamun.
The robbers then fled leaving the bus, one of its passengers dead and others injured, he said.
Mohammad Farhad, officer-in-charge of Chokoria Police Station said soon after the incident they have conducted drives in different villages but failed to arrest anyone in this connection.
Police recovered the body and sent it to hospital morgue yesterday, added the OC.
