Exporters' compliance underscored to hit global market

Speakers at a seminar stressed the need for fulfillment of compliance for the export oriented companies to survive in the present competitive market.
They were speaking at a seminar on “Compliance in the export sector,” organised by Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), Chittagong at its conference room in the port city yesterday.
Director General (DG) of EPB Salahuddin Mahmud was present as the chief guest at the event.
He said readymade garment (RMG) sector contributes about 78 per cent export earning of Bangladesh and it would increase if the industries get uninterrupted gas and electricity supply.
He said RMG industries are not provided with uninterrupted gas and electricity.
Mohammad Hatem, second vice president of Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA), in his keynote said Bangladesh can manufacture best quality fabrics at present.
The country is now in the second position in Knitwear export globally due to maintaining of best quality and price competitiveness, he said, adding that Bangladesh is preparing to secure the first position by 2020.
Fulfillment of compliance is necessary to achieve this goal, he said, adding that it would be very difficult, in future, for a company to get export order without fulfilling compliance.
Humayun Kabir Khan, director of BKMEA, said Bangladesh would not survive in the global competition if it holds old ideas.
"We will have to go ahead using the latest technologies and ideas," he said.
Abdul Moin, director of EPB, Chittagong, also spoke.
Bankers, government officials and officers from private organisations were present at the seminar.
