Speakers at a workshop here yesterday suggested that the government should allocate 10 percent of national budget in healthcare sector against the present allocation of 6.5 percent.
They also opined for rational distribution of manpower in the sector.
They were speaking at a regional consultation workshop titled “Health Care Financing Strategy” organised by Health Economics Unit, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare at a hotel in the port city.
Md Humayun Kabir, senior secretary of the ministry, was present as the chief guest at the programme with Prasanta Bhushan Barua, additional secretary in the chair.
The workshop was addressed, among others, by Md Serajul Huq Khan, divisional commissioner of Chittagong; Yann Derriennic, consultant of the workshop; Prof Dr Mainul Islam and Prof Dr Abu Bakar of Chittagong University; Prof Dr Ashok Kumar Dutta, principal of Cox's Bazar Medical College; Dr Mainul Islam Mahmud,
Earlier, Hafizur Raman, deputy secretary of the ministry, elaborated the aim of the workshop.
Dr Nahid Akhter Jahan, associate professor of Institute of Health Economics at Dhaka University; Dr Waliul Islam, a former secretary, Prof Dr Selim Muhammad Jahangir, principal of Chittagong Medical College and Dr Jahangir Khan, associate professor of Brac University, also spoke among others at the event.
