Man beats wife to death in Ctg
A housewife was beaten to death allegedly by her husband at her in-laws house in West Suabil Alamer Ghona area of Chittagong yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Nurjahan Begum, 35, hailed from the district's Dowlatpur area.
Her husband, Mohammed Idris, 40, has been missing since the incident.
Mohammed Ismail, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bhujpur Police Station, said, following quarrel between the couple over Idris's second marriage, Idris assaulted Nurjahan with a stick, eventually killing her around 2:45am.
The victim's brother Nurul Islam said the couple had been quarrelling ever since Idris married a lady identified as Muslimunnahar, 26, two months ago without Nurjahan's approval.
Getting information from locals, police recovered the body from the in-laws house and sent it to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for autopsy, the OC said.
Police also arrested Muslimunnahar from the house and is searching for Idris, he added.
“Tuesday night, Nurjahan's father-in-law told me over the phone that Nurjahan was crying and was not physically well,” Nurul said.
However, reaching the house in the morning, Nurul found his sister dead, he added.
He alleged that Idris and his second wife jointly assaulted Nurjahan, killing her.
Idris and Nurjahan were married in 1997 and have a 10-year old son and a six-year-old daughter, who are now residing at their father's residence.
Nurul filed a case with Bhujpur Police Station in this regard.
