Painters with promise
Bengal Art Lounge in Gulshan organised a duet art exhibition titled “Title Untitled”, featuring the works of promising painters Mustafa Jamil Akbar Shamim and M.M. Maizuddin.
Dr. Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, Secretary, Ministry of Education was present as chief guest and inaugurated the exhibition. The curator of the exhibition artist Shahid Kabir was present as special guest. Luva Nahid Chowdhury, director general of Bengal Foundation and the participating artists spoke at the programme.
Around 48 paintings (Jamil Akbar's 28 artworks and Maizuddin's 20 works) were on display at the exhibition.
Curator Shahid Kabir said, “I met Shamim and Maizuddin a few years back. It was their youth, diligence and dedication to art which attracted me to them and it was through their work that I really got to know them. I truly enjoy participating in discussions on the arts with young artists. I find their youth a great source of inspiration. Shamim, Maizuddin and I have participated together in many workshops and spent many hours sharing views with them.
Jamil Akbar's works have a distinct constancy. Mind-boggling lines and opaque colours are immersed in his paintings. Use of space is a notable trait of his works.
The colours in Maiz's paintings are strong and powerful and almost seem from a cosmic world. Little dots and planet-like forms reside within big empty spaces. His artworks in the exhibition seem simplified and composed.”
Jamil Akbar Shamim completed his MFA from Institute of Fine Arts (now Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka). He is now working as a freelance artist while MM Maizuddin received MFA (Drawing & Painting) degree from Rabindra Bharati University in India. As an upcoming artist, Maizuddin has already bagged a few awards including 16th Young Artist Award (2008) and Rembrandt 400 Exhibition Award, among others.
The exhibition ended yesterday.
