Judgment today
Judgment in the sensational Ashikur Rahman Khan Apu murder case will be delivered today.
Seven people, including a cousin of home minister, are accused in the case.
Judge Shahed Nuruddin of the Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 will deliver the judgment at 1:00pm, court sources said.
The case was filed with the Sutrapur Police Station on May 24, 2008, a day after Apu, a private university student, was shot dead and his two brothers -- Arifur Rahman Khan Setu and Atikur Rahman Khan Bappy -- were seriously injured in Wari.
Earlier, the prosecution and the defence had completed their arguments and the court recorded statements of 44 prosecution witnesses, including complainant Atia Khan Keya.
The government had made several moves to withdraw the case against all the seven charge-sheeted accused, citing political affiliations. The government made U-turn and withdrew its earlier decision for withdrawal of the case due to widespread criticism.
The charge-sheeted accused are Monjurul Abedin Russell, Mahbub Alam, Mohammad Ali alias Munna, Nawshad Hossain Mollah alias Robin, Iftekhar Beg alias Jhalak, Biplob Chandra Das and Atiq Ahmed Shiplu.
Of the accused, Russell, Jhalak, Munna and Robin are behind bars while Biplob and Mahbub on the run and Shiplu is on bail.
Shiplu and Biplob are activists of Jubo League, the youth front of the ruling Awami League; and Munna is said to be a cousin of Home Minister Shahara Khatun.
