Brisk sale of Asia Cup tickets
The first day of ticket sales of the Asia Cup received huge response as a large number of tickets were sold throughout the country through different branches of City Bank yesterday.
The City Bank branch at Dhanmondi road 27 was a hub of activity much before the bank doors were due to open at 10:00am. According to Rashad Banna, a member of the the supporters group "Doura, Bagh Ailo", people started queuing up as early as five in the morning.
“We got there around 5:30am and I was probably the fiftieth in line,” Banna said. In his estimation, around fifteen hundred fans were lined up for tickets by the time the doors opened.
Understandably, the match most in demand was the marquee clash between arch-rivals India and Pakistan to be held on March 18, and the bank authorities at the Dhanmondi branch seem to have realised this during the initial stages.
“We saw that the first ten people in line were given only one ticket each for the India-Pakistan game (each person is entitled to two tickets per game), and two for the rest,” informed Banna. “After some agitation from the queue, normal business was restored."
“Most eastern gallery tickets were sold out, while clubhouse and international gallery were still available when the gates closed in the evening,” he added
When contacted, BCB's ticket committee member Aynul Islam Tiash said, “All matches received very good response. The branches in the districts saw a lot of interest as well. We do not have the exact figures yet, but I can say that a lot of tickets were sold for all the matches.”
The Bangladesh-India match on March 16 was also in high demand, as it will take place on a Friday and involves the home side against the world champions.
As many as nine branches in the capital and 21 in the districts will sell 13,881 tickets (out of 25,435) for each match day.
