A red giant (or large brown) flying squirrel in the captivity of the Bandarban forest department. Forest officials found this rare mammal, mostly known as flying squirrel, in a village of Boangchhari upazila on Friday evening and later sent it to Dulahazarai safari park for preservation. An endangered species, this animal has its limbs connected by a membrane, the parachute. As it jumps into the air from a tree, the outstretched limbs expand the parachute to its fullest extent. And it literally flies. Photo: Courtesy
