2 killed, 25 hurt as villagers lock in fierce clashes
At least two people were killed and 25 others injured as rival villagers locked in clashes in Chapainawabganj and Netrakona districts yesterday and the day before.
A man was killed and at least 16 others were injured while eight houses ransacked as two rival groups clashed in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj yesterday morning.
The victim was identified as, Abul Kalam, 35, son of Entaz Ali of Kamalpur village, reports our correspondent.
The Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Shibganj and police said that the clash ensued following an altercation over the seat arrangement at a cultural function at Kamalpur High School on Friday afternoon.
Two people of Shialmara and Doulatbari villages turned the matter into a battle of the two villages, leaving five people injured.
Following the incident, all of a sudden, people of Shialmara village entered Kamalpur and Doulatbari villages with bamboo sticks, iron rods and lethal weapons at around 8:00am yesterday, ransacked around eight houses and injured at least 11 people.
Seriously injured Abul Kalam was rushed to the Chapainawabganj Adhunik Sadar Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
In Netrakona, a young man was killed and 10 others were injured as two rival groups clashed at Kumri village in Sadar upazila on Friday night, reports our correspondent.
The dead was identified as Mohon Mia, 22, son of Raisuddin of the village.
Police and local people said that the clash followed an altercation over a local football match.
A group led by Raisuddin and another by Masud engaged in a bloody clash at around 8pm with sharp and lethal weapons.
At least 11 people, including Mohon Mia and his father Raisuddin, were injured.
Mohan and Raisuddin were rushed to Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital in critical condition where Mohon Mia died after a few minutes.
Raisuddin was referred to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital. Several others were admitted to Netrakona Sadar Hospital.
