10 die in road crashes
Ten people were killed in separate road accidents in Barisal, Sylhet, Natore, Chapainawabganj and Thakurgaon yesterday and on Wednesday.
Our Barisal Correspondent reports: Five people were killed in four separate road accidents in Barisal yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Md Shahid, 29, of Sagordi area in the city, Alam Majhi, 26, son of Moti Majhi of Gabkhan Boidarapur, Ridoy Khan, 24, son of Sultan Khan of Rajapur, Mainuddin, 22, son of Kanchan Ali of Boirkathi in Jhalakathi; and Badhan Sardar , 6, son of Babul Sardar of Morakathi in Uzirpur.
Bakerganj police said motorcyclist Shahid died on the spot when a jeep, owned by Amtali municipal Mayor Matiur Rahman, hit the motorcycle from behind at Dudhal Mou of Bakerganj on Barisal-Patuakhli highway.
Police seized the jeep, but the driver managed to flee the scene.
Motorcyclists Alam Majhi died on the spot and Ridoy Khan succumbed to his injuries at Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (BSBMCH) as a truck hit their motorcycle from behind on Barisal-Dhaka highway at Mundupasha, said Uzirpur police.
A truck hit Badhan Sarkar and his mother Hena Begum at Morakathi on Barisal-Dhaka highway while they were going home on foot, leaving them injured critically, Uzirpur police said.
They were rushed to BSBMCH, where doctors declared Badhan dead.
Motorcyclist Mainuddin was injured while he tried to save a stray dog at Sreerampur on Barisal-Jhalakathi highway and succumbed to his injuries after admitted at BSBMCH, the hospital sources said.
Our Sylhet Correspondent adds: Two men were killed while three others injured in a road accident in Moiarchar area on Sylhet-Badaghat road yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Jalal Ahmed, 22, of Katipur vilage in Derai upazila, and Ershad Miah, 40, of Kalinagar village in the same upazil of Sunamganj district.
A speeding truck collided head on with an auto-rickshaw, leaving
Jalal dead on the spot and the other passengers of the auto-rickshaw injured critically, said Jalalabad police.
The injured were rushed to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, where Ershad succumbed to his injuries.
Locals put barricade on the road which was cleared by the police after two hours.
Our Natore Correspondent reports: A three-year-old boy was killed in a road crash in Mominpur village of Natore Sadar upazila on Wednesday morning.
Tuhin Ali, son of Asatul Ali of the village, died under the wheels of a three-wheeler while he was playing on the road beside his home, police and locals said.
Our Chapainawabganj Correspondent reports: A bank manager was crushed under the wheels of a truck in Baludanga bus stand area of Naogaon town yesterday.
The victim was identified as Shamsul Alam, 45, a manager of Hapania branch of Janata bank in Naogaon.
A truck hit Shamsul at around 10:00am while he was going to the bank, leaving him dead on the spot, said police.
Our Thakurgaon Correspondent adds: A motorcyclist was killed in a road accident on Thakurgaon-Panchagarh highway near Bhulli Bazar in Thakurgaon Sadar upazila yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Rajoni Kanta, 38, son of Chituram Barman of Kochubari village in the same upazila.
A Panchagarh-bound bus hit the motorcycle coming from the opposite direction, leaving Rajoni dead on the spot, police and locals said.
