Acid victim demands justice, protesters hold human chain

A victim of acid attack in Gaibandha sought justice while protesters in Pabna formed a human chain demanding punishment to another culprit for similar offence yesterday.
Acid attack victim Rehana Khatun of Protap village in Sadullapur upazila of Gaibandha yesterday demanded exemplary punishment of the culprits who threw acid on her in 2010, reports our correspondent.
At a press conference at Gaibandha Press Club she sought cooperation of the journalist in this regard.
According to Rehana, failing to marry her, one Shamsul Alam and his aide Milon Mia on September 13, 2010 night threw acid on her person through the window. Rehena sustained serious burn injuries in different parts of her body and face.
She filed a case with Acid Crime Prevention Tribunal in Gainandha. But the culprits released on bail are still threatening the victim and her families with dire consequences if they did not withdraw the case.
In Pabna, a human chain was formed by an women's organisation in front of Pabna Town Hall premises yesterday, protesting acid attack on young housewife Bipasha Khatun, reports our correspondent.
Bipasha, 20, daughter of Shahjalal of Library Bazar area, was going to buy medicine for her mother at about 6:30pm on Wednesday when her husband Monirul Islam aided by his family members and accomplices threw acid on her allegedly for dowry, locals said.
She is now undergoing treatment at Pabna Medical College Hospital.
People from all walks of life joined the human chain protesting the brutal acid attack and demanding punishment of the culprits.
Officer in-charge of Pabna police station Md Enayet Uddin said police have already caught Bipasha's father-in-law Golam Rosul and mother-in-law Asma Begum but her husband Md. Monirul Islam, the main accused, is still at large.
