Muktagacha Municipal Library's 36th anniversary celebrated
A five-day programme marking the 36th anniversary of Muktagacha Poura Shadharan Pathagar (Municipal General Library) concluded at the library auditorium on January 15. The programme included discussions, honouring eminent personalities, live performances, and competitions on painting and poetry recitation.
On the concluding day, 10 eminent personalities (posthumous) of Muktagacha were awarded for their brilliant roles in different fields including education, social work and politics.
The awardees were former Speaker of the Parliament, Shamsul Huda Chowdhury; the last zamindar of Muktagacha and also a Liberation War martyr Bakul Acharya Chowdhury; social worker Hazi Kashem Ali; Khandakar Abdul Halim; former chairman of Muktagacha Municipality, Taleb Ali; former lawmaker, Advocate Shamsul Haque; former chairman of Muktagacha Upazila, Fazlul Haque; former MLA Kalam Ali Ukil and founder secretary of Muktagacha Poura Shadaran Pathagar, Monoranjan Dey.
Earlier, a discussion was held marking the concluding ceremony.
K.M Khalid Babu, MP was the chief guest at the discussion. Abdul Hye Akanda, mayor of Muktagacha Municipality, presided the discussion.
The speakers were of the view that the library has had a major influence on the people of Muktagacha. The library has fulfilled the intellectual needs of local readers but modern facilities should be increased for the library to keep pace with the present technology-based world, they emphasised.
Later, the chief guest handed over the prizes among the winners of the poetry and painting competitions.
