Community radio launched in C'nawabganj

A community radio was launched in the district on Saturday with financial support from Japanese government.
Proyas Manobik Unnayan Sangstha, a local non-government organisation, organised the inaugural ceremony of Radio Mohananda, at Palash village.
Proyas received Tk 5.9 million (US$ 82868) under the Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGHSP) of Japan to set up the radio .
Counsellor of Embassy of Japan Masayuki Taga, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Israt Farzana, CEO of BNNRC Bazlur Rahman, Principal of Chapainawabganj Government College Sultana Razia, Police Superintendent Sazzadur Rahman, Proyas Executive Director Hasib Hossain attended the inaugural session.
Speaking on the occasion, Masayuki Taga hoped that the project would greatly contribute towards the betterment of the life of people in rural areas of Chapainawabganj and thus accelerate the overall socioeconomic development of Bangladesh.
In case of natural disasters like cyclone and flood, this community radio will air warning services to save people's lives. The radio will also serve the backward community or socially vulnerable groups to get agricultural information, microcredit related information, health care information, market price and market analyses.
It will also broadcast programmes on human rights, gender equality and women's empowerment.
