Tendons of BNP man severed, AL leader hacked
Criminals severed tendons of legs of a union BNP leader in Shailkupa upazila on Tuesday.
The victim, Shariful Islam, 55, is the vice-president of Kacherkol union BNP. He hails from Kachua village in the union.
Officer in-charge (OC) Ahsan Habib of Shailkupa Police Station said a gang of 20-30 criminals swooped on Shariful when he went to his cropland at the village around 9:00am.
The gang cut off tendons of his legs and left the scene. On information police reached the spot and sent Shariful to Kushtia Sadar Hospital, the OC added.
Shailkupa upazila BNP General Secretary Rakibul Hossain Khan Dipu alleged that local Awami League cadres attacked Shariful and cut off his tendons. He strongly condemned the incident and demanded immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the culprits.
Refuting the allegation, Shailkupa upazila AL President Amjad Hossain said Shariful has become a victim of local BNP's internal feud. AL men were not involved in such heinous act, he added.
No case in connection with the incident was filed with the police station concerned as of 5:00pm yesterday.
Meanwhile, a local Awami League leader was injured in an attack by his rivals over a land dispute at Kamraband village in Tahirpur upazila of Sylhet yesterday, reports UNB.
Locals said there had been a longstanding dispute between Tota Miah, general secretary of Badaghat Union Awami League, and Monju Mollick Shemu of the village, over the ownership of a land.
A gang led by Monju Mollick's sons Iqbal, Amir and Babu attacked the house of Tota Miah at around 8:30am and hacked him with sharp weapons.
The injured AL leader was admitted to Tahirpur Upazila Health Complex.
