Tagore as a beacon for the young
Marking the 31st convention of Rabindra Sangeet Sammilon Parishad, the artistes of the Parishad's central and local units rendered Tagore songs at Zila Shilpakala Academy auditorium on January 7.
The artistes entertained the audience with their moving performances of popular Tagore songs.
The Parishad has been working since 1981 to generate interest in Bengali culture and tradition in and outside the country.
The leaders of the Parishad said that the national conference of the Parishad will be held at Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin Auditorium of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) and at Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin Sangrahashala (art gallery) in the town on March 8, 9 and 10 this year.
The representatives of 80 branches of the Parishad, from different districts of the country and the capital city, will join the programme scheduled to be held here in March.
A 20-member group for Udjapon Parishad was also formed at the convention with Dr. Manjurul Alam, a professor of BAU, as its convener and Atiqul Alam as general secretary.
Later a discussion was held.
Principal Motiur Rahman, MP was the chief guest at the convention and vice-chancellor of BAU, Professor Rafiqul Hoque, was the special guest.
Among others, Mayor of Mymensingh municipality, Ekramul Haque Titu, and central secretary of Rabindra Sangeet Sammilon Parishad, Sohrab Hossain, were also present on the occasion.
The speakers at the discussion said that it was difficult to imagine Bengali culture without Tagore. The Nobel Prize conferred on him brought glory to not only Bengali-speaking people, but all in the sub-continent. His songs on nature, seasons and different aspects of human lives still charm us, they added.
Tagore artistes should put their hearts into inspiring the younger generation so that they could be the worthy citizens of the country and the saviours of the country's tradition and culture in future, they concluded.
