Dohazari-Cox's Bazar rail route demanded

Speakers at a human chain yesterday urged Railways Minister Suranjit Sengupta to establish a rail connection from Dohazari to Cox's Bazar.
Socio-cultural organisations including Sobdaion Abritti Mancha, Sahai Foundation, Nongar, Pulse Bangladesh and Coast Trust organised the programme before Cox's Bazar municipality office around 11:00am, says a press release.
Though the prime minister laid the foundation stone of the rail route last year, the minister, at a press conference in Rail Bhaban on December 31, 2011, did not mention the route in his development plans, they said.
The speakers threatened to go for tougher movements if their demand is not met.
Freedom fighter Mohammad Shahjahan, Poribesh Sangbadik Forum General Secretary Fazlul Kader Chowdhury and Coast Trust team leader Mokbul Ahmed spoke at the programme.
Afterwards, the organisations submitted a memorandum to the minister through the deputy commissioner of Cox's Bazar.
