Mill staffer hit by steel bars, dies

A staff of a steel mill died after being hit by a bundle of steel bars at the mill in Sitakunda in the district early yesterday.
The victim was identified as Sheikh Md Tantanah, 35, a customer service and delivery officer of BSRM Steels Limited at Fouzdarhat, said Havilder Pankaj Barua at Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) police outpost.
Mill sources said Tantanah, son of Sheikh Abdul Majid of Khulna, was badly injured as a bundle of steel bars hit him when an operator was lifting it from one place to another by a crane.
The accident took place when he was giving instructions to the crane operator, they added.
Tantanah succumbed to his injures at CMCH at around 2:30am.
