Khulna BNP demands neutral probe body
Khulna city unit of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has demanded formation of a neutral committee to probe Monday's violence at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (Kuet).
It also demanded immediate removal of Vice Chancellor Prof Muhammad Alamgir for his alleged support to the BCL men who went on the rampage and attacked general students and teachers.
City BNP President Nazrul Islam Manju MP raised the demands at a press conference at the party office yesterday.
Demanding re-opening of the university, the BNP leader said the vice chancellor did not allow police to go into action at the time of violence for which Chhatra League cadres loyal to him got enough scope to go on the rampage and attack general students and teachers without any obstruction.
He demanded withdrawal of the cases filed against four teachers and 36 general students and arrest of those who were involved in the violence on Monday.
Meanwhile, the Kuet vice chancellor on Tuesday night formed a five-member committee headed by Prof Keramat Ali Molla, director of information and communication technology, (ICT) to probe the incident on the campus.
Four other members of the committee are Prof Mihir Ranjan Halder of mechanical department, Prof. AM. Azharul Hasan of computer science and engineering department, Azizur Rahman of industrial and engineering management department, and Associate Prof Md Harun-or-Rashid of civil enginerring department.
The probe committee has been asked to submit its report to the vice chancellor within the shortest possible time.
