'Filmy-Bahas' presents Berlin -based Russian Master Filmmaker Victor Kossakovsky in Dhaka as the first Master of the 'Tareque Masud Master's Class' (TMMC) Series 1. Victor Kossakovsky is a true film auteur, who directs, shoots and edits his own films. His films have won more than 100 prizes at film festivals around the word including Joris Ivens Award of IDFA 1993. His latest film “Vivan Las Antipodas!” was the opening film of the Venice Film Festival-2011. Known for being fiercely independent in spirit with a strong focus in poetics and reality, Victor is a big favourite on the international film festival circuit as an influential figure in the world of documentary.
Incepted in fond memory of Tareque Masud, 'Filmy Bahas' is a virtual rendezvous for filmy dialogue, debate and discussion. TMMC is a lecture series intended with only the best of the world benefiting mostly the up-and-coming filmmakers, young film professionals, film organisers and film students from Bangladesh. The prime objective of the series is to share knowledge and wisdom through generations, a motto that Tareque carried all through his lifetime. The idea is to bring different school of thoughts to the young filmmakers in contrast to the stereotyped. The whole attempt is a tribute to the master filmmaker Tareque Masud who always believed that a different world is possible.
The daylong screening, discussion and debate will be held on January 16, 2012 at The Daily Star Convention Centre in Dhaka. Professor Nilotpal Majumdar, Dean of Satayajit Ray Film and Television Institute of Kolkata and Catherine Masud from Bangladesh are also expected to be part of the panel and chair. The programme is organised by BEGINNING Production with media partners The Daily Star; Somoy Sangbad; ABC Radio; bdnews24.com; American International University Bangladesh (AIUB); The Guide Tours Ltd and Iris Technology.
