Man commits suicide after 'killing' wife
A man allegedly killed his wife and then committed suicide at South Kafrul in the capital yesterday.
Ismail Hossain, 43, a retired warrant officer of the army, reportedly strangled his wife Delwara Begum, 36, sometime in the afternoon following a family feud, said Abdul Latif, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kafrul Police Station.
Around 5:30pm, Ismail jumped off their five-storied flat building. He succumbed to his injuries around 10:30pm at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, the OC said.
Doel, the youngest son of the couple, aged around 13, went to his aunt's home nearby around 12:30pm, Latif said, adding that when Doel returned around 3:30pm he did not find his mother.
Doel then asked his father where his mother was and his father told him that she went to his aunt's house, where Doel was a few minutes ago. Doel then called his aunt's house to know she was not there. His aunt, however, came over and found Delwara's body under the couple's bed.
Ismail then went to the roof and jumped, the OC said.
Latif said the couple had two sons. The eldest, who is mentally challenged, was at home during the incident.
