Rhythm of Melody
In memory of Ustad Syed Zakir Hossain and Shafiur Rahman, the founding president and founder and lifetime general secretary of Shuddha Sangeet Proshar Goshthi respectively, the 43rd (winter session) classical music conference 2011 is on at SEL Centre, West Panthapath, in Dhaka. Shuddha Sangeet Proshar Goshthi(SSPG) has arranged the conference.
The three day conference set off on December 27. Both vocal and instrumental music performances were held on the opening day. Swarnamoy Chakrobarty kicked off the event by presenting vilambit and drut kheyal set on Raga “Marwa”. Sabuj Ahmed accompanied the vocalist on tabla.
Anil Kumar Saha was the second performer of the evening. With the bandish “Aaj Hona Aaye”, the artiste presented vilambit kheyal based on Raga “Gorok Kalyan”. The melody of “Gorok Kalyan” generates both melancholy and romance as well and is akin to the rendition style of Raga “Bageshree”. The performer did justice to the genre. “Dhano Dhano Bhagey” was the bandish of Saha's drut kheyal performance. He put up an impressive in composing rhythm. Sabuj Ahmed on tabla, Aloke Kumar Sen on harmonium and Jibon on tanpura accompanied the artiste.
A dhun performance on Raga “Mishra Pilu” by sitar artiste Satyajit Chakrobarty was next. Satyajit endearingly played alap while his gaut performance had somewhat of improvisational in style. Sabuj Ahmed's tabla rela on madhyalaya and drut teentaal was well appreciated. The sitarist wrapped up his performance with a tehai.
Yakub Ali Khan and Yusuf Ali Khan were the last performers of the day. The artiste duo presented a jugalbandi on Raga “Darbari Kanara”. Sabuj Ahmed accompanied them on tabla.
Yesterday was the second day of the music conference. Badal Pramanik and Asit Dey were the featured vocalists while Zakir Hossain played a tabla lahora and Shahadat Hossain Khan presented a dhun on his sarod at the event.
The last session of the conference will set off today at 6 pm. A Chhayanaut guru Rezwan Ali Lavlu, Karim Shahabuddin and Rabiul Hossain will perform vocal music while Azizul Islam will play the flute at the conference.
