Russian-made SMG recovered in Chittagong
The Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) yesterday recovered a Russian-made 9mm sub-machine gun (SMG), a magazine and 16 bullets from a remote place at Dohazari in Chandanaish upazila of the district.
None could be arrested in this connection as the suspected criminals fled the scene before the raid.
Rab sources said a Dohazari-based criminals' gang bought the SMG along with a pistol and some ammunitions from a Myanmar-based insurgent group named Arakan Liberation Party in 2003.
Afterwards, the gang carried out criminal activities in different parts of Dohazari and adjoining areas.
Being tipped off, Rab-7 continued its secret hunt for the arms and ammunitions for last three months and finally conducted the raid at Dhopachhari area in Dohazari at around 12:30am.
They found the SMG, magazine and bullets in abandoned state.
Sources suspect that the gang might possess a sophisticated M-16 rifle, and the Rab is trying to recover it.
