Nitol-Tata driving school opens today
The Nitol-Tata Driving Training Institute will be inaugurated today in Kishoreganj with an aim to produce 50,000 trained and skilled drivers in the next five years.
LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Syed Ashraful Islam will open the centre that is equipped with modern training facilities at a ceremony at Kaliapara in the district, said Nitol-Niloy Group Chairman Abdul Matlub Ahmed at a press briefing in National Press Club in Dhaka yesterday.
The group has invested Tk 15 crore to set up the training institute spread over 15 acres.
Road accidents are one of the major causes for deaths in Bangladesh, killing about 12,000 people a year. Drivers are blamed for 70 percent of the deaths.
Tata Motors Ltd, an Indian multinational automotive corporation headquartered in Mumbai, will provide support in the areas of dual control training vehicle technology, simulator technology, driving training manual and aggregate cut section.
Ahmed said people would be provided with driving and mechanical training in cars and light and heavy commercial vehicles.
The centre will offer training opportunities to three types of people at different costs: learners will be able to enrol at Tk 7,500, while the course fee to refresh and upgrade is Tk 5,500 and Tk 3,500.
The cost includes food and accommodation. A hostel, which can accommodate 500 people at a time, has been constructed alongside the centre.
"This will be a world-class driving training institute. We will maintain quality syllabus," said Ahmed.
"This will not only help create skilled and trained drivers in the country, but also contribute to avoiding preventable road crashes. They will also get jobs abroad," he said, adding that the group will set up a second centre in Rangpur soon.
The centre has a 3.5-kilometre training track.
Prakash M Telang, managing director (India Operations) of Tata Motors, will also attend the opening ceremony.
