20 Chandpur BNP men hurt in police action
At least 20 activists of local BNP and its associate bodies were injured as police charged batons on their procession in Chandpur town yesterday.
Local unit of BNP and its associate bodies jointly took out a procession in the town at around 11:00am, marking the 47th birthday of the party's Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman.
When the procession reached at Jor Pukur Par area, police intercepted it. At one stage, police used truncheons, leaving at least 20 BNP men injured.
Contacted, officer-in-charge Chandpur Model Police Station Jaker Hossain said the BNP men brought out a violent procession defying a ban and misbehaved with the law enforcers. Police used truncheons to bring the situation under control, he added.
Our Moulbivazar correspondent adds: Leaders of the district BNP at a press conference here yesterday protested arrest of a number of JCD men in 'false' cases filed by AL following the incident in the town on the night of November 15.
They alleged that rival BCL groups clashed on the night and vandalised shops and vehicles in the town. But the AL local unit held the JCD men responsible for the incident and implicated them in 'false' cases.
