Tanvir Mokammel's “1971” to be released in December

Noted filmmaker Tanvir Mokammel's latest feat, a documentary on the Liberation War, has been completed recently. The documentary, titled “1971” will be released on the eve of 40th Victory Day, says a press release.
Divided into two episodes, the nearly four hour-long documentary is expected to be a visual archive of the war.
Mokammel has written, conducted research for seven years and directed the documentary. The director, who has made award-winning documentaries such as “Achin Pakhi”, “Karnaphulir Kanna” and “Swapnobhumi”, has shot and collected over 250 hours of footage for his latest venture. The shooting took place in different districts of the country as well as in Kolkata, where East Pakistani refugees stayed in camps during the Liberation War.
Mokammel collected stock footage from different archives in Europe and America. The filmmaker took interviews of 176 individuals including freedom fighters, politicians, sector commanders, Birangana, refugees and those who observed the war in general.
Renowned cinematographer Anwar Hossain was behind the camera, while Mahadev Shi is the editor of the film. Syed Shabab Ali Arzu did the background scores, and Uttam Guha is the assistant director.
Apart from direction, Mokammel also did the research and screenplay for the film.
