Everything's crumbling away
Never before people had to face so many problems. Looking around we find everything crumbling away, no respite is in sight.
When people were rejoicing, the news of Selina Hayat Ivy's becoming the Mayor of NCC, Lokman Hossain, the mayor of Narsingdi, was shot in a room of the Awami League office. Critically injured, he was taken to DMCH where he died on November 1.
We learned that Lokman Hossain was a very good person, he was elected twice as mayor and received gold medal as the best mayor of the country. The people of Narsingdi looked upon Lokman as 'a mayor with a rare personality'. He was vocal against drug peddling, extortion and all sorts of criminal activities. Only at age 43, his life was cut down.
We were astonished by the news that Khairul Kabir Khokon, president of BNP Narsingdi district unit, was arrested from his residence in Dhaka on November 2. On what ground police had done it was unfathomable. Kamruzzaman, brother of the slain mayor, did not mention the name of Khokon when filing the case. He named Bachchu, the younger brother of Posts and Telecommunications Minister Rajiuddin Ahmed Raju, as the main accused and 13 others for their suspected involvement in the killing.
Home Minister Sahara Khatun is constantly saying that the guilty persons will be given exemplary punishment no matter to which party they belong. We shall wait and see how she keeps her promise, or those are only empty words.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina must make sure that murderers of Mayor Lokman Hossain are hunted down and brought to justice.
