Clashes in 5 dists leave 3 killed, over 100 hurt
Three people were killed and at least 105 others injured in clashes in Barisal, Pirojpur, Habiganj, Natore and Narail districts in three days (Sunday to Tuesday).
In Pirojpur, two people were killed and 35 others injured in a clash between two groups of villagers at Ponakhali village under Nazirpur upazila on Tuesday, according to our Barisal correspondent.
The deceased were identified as Babul Howladar, 31, and Yahya Daria, 29.
Police and locals said members of Daria and Howladar families equipped with lethal weapons attacked each other over establishing supremacy at the village, leaving the two dead and 35 others injured.
Around 40 houses were also gutted in the clash that started around 10:00am and continued until 2:00pm, said Abbasuddin, officer in-charge of Nazirpur police station.
Police recovered the bodies from the spot and sent them to Pirojpur Health Complex for autopsy. Additional police personnel have been deployed in the area to avert further trouble.
In Barisal, at least 15 people were wounded in two groups of villagers clashed at Jangalpotty and Sharifabad in Gournadi upazila on Eid day.
Of the injured, four were admitted to Gournadi Upazila Health Complex.
The clash occurred around 5:30pm following an altercation between the two villagers over having cigarette at Keblar Vita of Sharifabad village, said Inspector Nurul Islam, officer in-charge of Gournadi police station.
Our correspondent from Sylhet: A teenage girl was killed and 30 others were wounded in a clash between two groups of villagers at Kalabharpur village in Nabiganj upazila on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Salma Begum, 17, daughter of Abdur Rouf.
Among the injured, 12 were admitted to Nabiganj Upazila Health Complex while one Amzad Miah, 18, was rushed to Sylhet Osmani Medical College and Hospital.
The clash ensued in the morning as a sequel to a longstanding dispute between the supporters of one Abdul Aziz, and Lal Miah, ex-union parishad (UP) member, over taking control of the village, said ASP Sirajul Huda. Three people were arrested in connection with the incident, he added.
Police personnel have been deployed in the area to avoid further trouble.
In Natore, at least 10 people were injured as two rival groups of villagers clashed at Brikasho village of Gurudaspur upazila on Eid day, reports our correspondent.
According to locals and police, the clash took place after the Eid jamat (congregation) between two rival villagers over selling a tree of mosque. At one stage a group of villagers swooped on the President Hafizur Rahman, and the secretary Israfil Islam of mosque committee.
Of the injured, Rahman and Islam were admitted to Natore Sadar Hospital while the rest to Gurudaspur Upazila Health Complex.
Our Correspondent from Narail: At least 15 people were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers at Jalalsi village under Noldi Union in Lohagara upazila the day after Eid.
Police and witnesses said there was a longstanding rivalry between two villagers- Chunnu Biswas and Babu Sardar.
Supporters of Chunnu and Babu equipped with lethal weapons attacked each other at noon over establishing supremacy in the area, leaving 15 people injured.
