On the eve of Eid-ul-Azha, railway workers have repaired 56 old and damaged compartments at Saidpur workshop.
These compartments will be added to different intercity trains and the newly introduced special trains for carrying additional passengers before and after the Eid, said Monjurul Alam, divisional superintendent of Saidpur railway workshop.
The repaired compartments were yesterday handed over to the Traffic Department of Bangladesh Railway (BR). Of the compartments, 36 will be used for broad gauge lines while the rest for metre gauge ones.
Using these compartments, the railway authorities will be able to provide train services for additional 10,000 passengers on the occasion of Eid, BR sources said.
A new special train will also run between Parbatipur and Dhaka from today on the occasion of Eid.
Our Barisal correspondent reported that Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) started Eid special steamer services on Wednesday.
Sheikh Mohammad Nasim, BIWTC deputy general manager (commercial / passenger and ferry), said six vessels, including four PS (peddle steamer), two MV (screw propelled motor vessel) steamers have been placed under special services.
BIWTC vessels PS Turn and PS Ostrich starting the 14-day Eid special service till November 14 left Dhaka Wednesday evening for Morelganj and Barisal river ports.
Everyday, at least one regular and one special vessels will ply the different river routes to carry the homebound passengers.
